(REFLECTIONS ON 1 John 2:18-29 )
The relationship between the Father and the Son, that is God and Jesus Christ, is an important one. We can’t separate the two and choose one and not the other. However, for many that believed in God, believing that Jesus is the Christ was difficult for them to accept. In fact, some even left the fellowship of believers, because they just wanted to believe in God, but did not accept that Jesus is the Christ.
Jesus said in John 14:6,
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Many wish to know God, to have a relationship with God, but do not desire to know Jesus or have a relationship with Him. However, Jesus is clear saying that He is the way and the truth and the life. It is only through Jesus Christ that we can have a relationship with God.
Although many believe the antichrist is the pinnacle of all evil, but John reminds us that the antichrist is anyone that denies the Son, that is Jesus Christ. John writes,
23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
The Christian faith teaches that Jesus is the Christ, that is the Messiah, the anointed one that was to come in order to unite creation with the Creator, that is us and God. However, the world and the world’s religions often try to convince us otherwise. That is that all roads lead to God, or all roads lead to whatever gods you would like.
May we not be led astray and turn God into gods, or into our own imagination and idol of what we desire a god to be, and may we not be led astray to believe that we can find our own way to God, and have a faith without Jesus Christ.
I recently ran into a church co-worker that I met over 10 years ago. When I asked him if was still serving at the same church, he said no. When I asked him what church he was attending now, he said that he isn’t a Christian anymore. My wife then said to me afterwards, didn’t you see the beads on his wrist, it is clear that he has found another religion.
Although it was pleasant conversation, but in my heart I wept, because there is no other faith that can lead us to God. We can’t desire God and get to Him through other means. Jesus is the Christ and is the way and the truth and the life.
