(REFLECTIONS ON Psalm 139:1-24) We spend so much of our lives trying to measure, understand, explain, and predict. Has our desire to control our environment, our lives, and even our own faith, led us to a place where we have lost the mystery of God’s creation? In today’s Psalm, we read the psalmist praise God saying, […]
(REFLECTIONS ON Psalm 138:1-8) 1 I will give You thanks with all my heart;I will sing praises to You before the gods.2 I will bow down toward Your holy templeAnd give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name. (REFLECTIONS ON Psalm 137:1-9) 1 By the rivers of Babylon,There we sat down and wept,When we remembered Zion.2 Upon the willows in the midst of itWe hung our harps.3 For there our captors demanded of us songs,And our tormentors mirth, saying,“Sing us one of the songs of Zion.” In today’s Psalm, we see an image of […]
(REFLECTIONS ON Psalm 136:1-26) In Psalm 136, the phrase “For His lovingkindness is everlasting“ is repeated after each verse of proclamation. The repetition is intentional and it is a liturgical call and response. The psalmist first proclaims who God is, what He has done, and the congregation responds each time with, “For His lovingkindness is everlasting.” There is […]

(REFLECTIONS ON Psalm 132:1-18) As the pilgrims walk up towards the Lord’s sanctuary to worship, they are reminded that in the House of the Lord, on top of the Ark of the Covenant, between the two cherubim, is the mercy seat where the glory of the Lord dwells with His people. And they remember David: 1 […]

The simple life is not about removing oneself from this complicated, complex, chaotic, noisy world, but rather to dwell in the space of peace that the Lord provides. The secret to the simple life then is […]
(REFLECTIONS ON Psalm 130:1-8) As we read the words of the psalmist: 1 Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord.2 Lord, hear my voice!Let Your ears be attentiveTo the voice of my supplications. What do we imagine that the psalmist is going through? Although we may quickly conclude and associate the pleas […]

During this process, workers create furrows, which […]
