(REFLECTIONS ON 1 Kings 9:1-9)
In Scripture, we see many saints walk with the Lord. To walk with the Lord means living in relationship with God, aligning our lives with His will, and walking in the same direction, with the same heart, and in acts of faith that are aligned with our Lord.
To walk with the Lord is our response to the grace He has poured upon us. It was also the response Solomon should have had for being chosen and blessed by God.
4 “As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you and will keep My statutes and My ordinances, 5 then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever…”
Solomon was to walk with the Lord as David did, in integrity of heart and uprightness. Integrity of heart speaks of an undivided heart toward the Lord. It is being whole before Him and devoted to Him. Uprightness speaks of walking in His straight path, not turning aside to crooked ways.
There is also a promise attached to walking with the Lord in integrity of heart and uprightness. The promise is that the Lord would establish the throne of David’s kingdom over Israel forever.
This reminds us of the key to a life of faith in the Lord. It is not perfect behavior or sinless living, but through the push and pull of the Holy Spirit, continually living in worship and humbly aligning ourselves to the straight path of the Lord.
It reminds us that living in the Spirit is the way to live a life of integrity and uprightness, and not merely an intellectual or knowledge-based faith. To walk with the Lord in integrity of heart and uprightness, we need the Holy Spirit to lead us, guide us, and help us walk in step with the Lord.
Walk with the Lord and live in the promises of our God. Walk with the Lord and enjoy His presence, grace, and love from everlasting to everlasting.
