(REFLECTIONS ON Psalm 128:1-6)

Why? Because blessed is everyone that does. Are we missing out on the blessings of the Lord, because we can’t get over the word FEAR? We accept words like love, grace and mercy, and to love the Lord, be loved by the Lord, but when we are told to FEAR the Lord, we don’t want anything to do with it, because we associate FEAR with pain, anxiety, insecurity, etc.

However, are we missing out on the blessings of the Lord because we can only accept a God on our own terms, and not a God that is actually God? Why should we FEAR the Lord? Because God is so mighty, so powerful, righteous, holy, and should be revered.

If we can stand in the presence of the source of all life, the creator of the heavens and earth, and be nonchalant, be all cool and collected, then are we truly worshiping the true God? We tremble at thunder and lightening, but don’t FEAR the Lord that is over and above all these things.

1 How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways…4 Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord.

Yes, the Lord is mighty, powerful, and righteous, but He was willing in all His awesome might to become a man, reduce Himself in humility to one that is like us through Jesus Christ. And not only that, but through Jesus Christ He brought us into a relationship with Him. To love us, and to care for us, and to be our Father, isn’t that the ultimate form of love and sacrifice?

The Lord that we should FEAR because He is all powerful, turns that FEAR into a love relationship through His Son, Jesus Christ. It turns what would cause all creation to shake and hide, into love, respect, and goes from a FEAR that is afraid, to a position of awe, wonder, respect, acknowledging who He is, and who we are, and the grace of having a relationship that bridges that tremendous gap.

It is like entering into the eye of a massive catastrophic storm and realizing that it is in the middle that there is absolute peace. FEAR the Lord and in Him find love, acceptance, hope, and peace (wholeness).
