(REFLECTIONS ON Psalm 125:1-5)
As I was reading today’s Psalm, it brought me back to the beginning, that is Psalm 1,
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water…
The one that meditates day and night on the law of the Lord will be firmly planted by streams of water. His Word, my brothers and sisters, it is His Word. In our journey through the Psalms, especially Psalm 119, isn’t that the truth that has been revealed to us?
In fact, isn’t that the truth from Genesis that in the beginning God said…and there was, until Revelation when Jesus tell us, “Yes, I am coming quickly,” as the Bible comes to a close? It is the Word of God that sustains us, that as we meditate on it day and night, that we are planted by the streams of water, the living water, firmly planted in Him.
This is the forever stand, the key to being planted into the foundation, that is Christ, the rock, our sure foundation.
1 Those who trust in the Lord
Are as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but abides forever.
How do we trust in the Lord? We trust in His Word, and when His Word is planted in us, we are firmly planted by streams of water. In His Word, we cannot be moved but abide in Him forever, that is the forever stand.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.
Brothers and sisters, as we are in His Word, we are planted firmly in our sure foundation, the rock on which we stand. That is where we will have peace, that is wholeness in God through Christ Jesus. Forever stand speaks to eternity and stability in this life and in the next.
Yes, the world may crumble, our flesh may fail us, but the Lord surrounds His people forever, and we cannot be moved but abide in Him forever. Let us be firmly planted in His Word, and let His Word bring us into a trusting relationship with our Lord.
Let us forever stand, firmly planted by streams of water, and never thirst again.
